Meet Ms. O'Connell

Hello Parents,

I hope you've had a wonderful summer. I would like to begin by introducing myself. My name is Ms. Sarah O'Connell and this will be my third year teaching at Queen's. Previously I taught third grade for two years and now I will begin my adventure with first grade!

I have five people in my family: two wonderful parents, one brother and sister who are still in college. I grew up in the Jackson area, attending St. Johns Elementary, JCMS and Lumen Chrisiti. I received my Bachelor of Science in Education and Early Childhood Certificate from Western Michigan University in 2008 (Go Broncos!!).  Currently I'm enrolled in Spring Arbor University's online program working towards continuing education credits and a Master's degree in the Reading Specialist field.

I began my teaching journey with two internships in Kindergarten. I student taught in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. I was a substitute teacher in many local school districts before accepting a job with Queen's.  All of my previous jobs have involved working with children. Some of my jobs were coaching soccer and working as a day camp counselor/lifeguard at the YMCA.

Teaching children is a passion of mine as well as volunteer work. I have been a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor for over five years. Currently I'm matched with a 7 yr. old named Halle. We have a lot of fun together! In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, going to church and working out. I attend Zumba fitness classes and I also like to run. I've participated in many 5k's....not ready for a marathon yet!

I have a passion for hands-on learning and I look forward to spending the year with all of my students and thier families.

 Ms. O'Connell
